Bewdley Concert Band was formed by Valerie Blount and Ian Worton. The very first rehearsal took place on 2nd October 2010 at Bewdley Primary School. Valerie was then leader of music at the school and felt that there was a need for a community band in Bewdley. Ian was an experienced Musical Director and saw this as an opportunity to establish a wind band in the area. Their extensive ground work advertising and encouraging local musicians to come along ensured that the band was a success from the start.
Ian is still Musical Director and his supportive positive style has ensured that the band has gone from strength to strength over the years with many talented musicians from a wide area joining.
Ian’s roots as an Army musician his training at the Royal Military School of Music and subsequent work with Telford and Wrekin Music Service have been a major factor in his style of conducting and has helped the band become what it is today. Over the years the band has performed at many concerts and musical events with one very notable concert being their amazing performance at The Symphony Hall Birmingham in April 2015.
